Colts Challenge Report
The CPSA Colts Challenge took place on Sunday July 31 at The Game Fair, Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. The competition saw the top 10 colts based on CPSA rankings compete across a 25 Bird Sport Trap layout.
The shooters were divided into two groups of five for the semi-finals, with the top five progressing to the final to repeat the layout.
Brody Woollard and Karl Miles both shot 21 ex 25 to book their places in the final. They were joined by Amy Easeman, Thomas Woodcock and Sam Houghton.
The final itself was a tense affair, as Ian Coley MBE watched on with many of the young shooters families and friends from the VIP Layouts on Europe’s longest shooting line.
Local lad 15-year-old Brody Woollard from Warwickshire came out on top shooting 17 ex 25 and making home advantage count. He was followed by Kar
l Miles on 16 ex 25 and then Thomas Woodcock who dropped a further target.
Brody was awarded with 750 Lyalvale Express cartridges and £100, whilst Karl and Thomas both won £50 and then 500 and 250 Lyalale Express cartridges respectively.
Speaking after he was presented his prize by Ian Coley MBE, Brody said: “I didn’t expect to win, I didn’t feel like I was shooting very well in the first round. There was a tricky edge on A Board and C Board was hard to see.”
He added: “The grey sky and black clays also made it hard to see, but I managed to stay focused on my shooting, and I’m really pleased to win.”
Nick Fellows, Chief Executive of the CPSA said: “The Colts Challenge was a fantastic event showcasing the very best of our young shooters. Drawn from the top 10 of our rankings, these youngsters represent the future of our sport and are sure to be future champions in their own right."
He added: “They shot the same targets as the Champion of Champions the day before and the standard was impressively high as was the attitude and spirit shown by all the competitors.
I’d like to thank our sponsors Lyalvale Express for donating cartridges to the top three and also to Promatic and CCI and also E.J. Chruchill and The Game Fair for laying on the event for us.”
