Champion of Champions Report
The CPSA Champion of Champions final took place on Saturday July 30 at The Game Fair, Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. The competition saw 22 County nominated top shooters from around the county competing for the prestigious trophy.
First, each shooter had to qualify over the Sporting course, with ten spaces up for grabs in the semi-finals.
Guy Franklin was on superb form, the Sussex-based shooter led the way with an impressive 45 ex 50 to book his spot in the next round. Jamie Deadman from Wiltshire also shot well as he recorded 44 ex 50 to join Guy along with the next eight best shooters in the semi-finals.
The Southern England pair led the way in the 25 Bird Sport Trap semi-finals. Both dropping just two birds to progress to the final where they were joined by Aaron Harvey from Suffolk, Shaun Stacey from Somerset and Harry Coups from Lincolnshire.
The final was contested over the same format as the semi-final and once again Guy and Jamie had the edge on the field. However, it was Dairy Farmer Guy who took the honours. With the pair tied going into their final layout, Jamie dropped one bird, whilst Guy shot a straight five to finish on 23 ex 25, crowning him the 2016 Champion of Champions.
Aaron and Shaun tied for third place, splitting the £100 prize, Jamie won a Toyota Rally Experience along with £150 for his runners-up finish.
Speaking after he was awarded with a holiday donated by Viking Cruises UK and £200, Guy said: “I normally only ever go abroad to shoot so it will
be nice to go on holiday and not have to take my gun with me.”
He added: “I qualified for the Champion of Champions two years ago and didn’t even make it through to the semi-finals. It’s nice to come back and win it! I’ve been feeling confident about my shooting this year. I shot well last week at a competition and felt good going into the Champion of Champions.”
“I would like to thank my sponsors, Southdown Gun Club and Stuart Smith at Rakers for helping out with Fiocchi cartridges.”
