Olympic Skeet Championship Report

On the 29th & 30th June, the BICTSF hosted the UK Championships at National Clay Shooting Centre. The 34 shooters were greeted with excellent weather on the Saturday for the start of competition. For this event the BICTSF OSK board was able to subsidise the entry fee for colts to just £10. Three colts took up this offer; Jedson Herman, Katy Essex and Oli Co.  We had a strong Welsh contingent that made the trip across the border to support the shoot – many thanks.

Congratulations to Andrew Lea who was the overall winner on a score 119. Luke Young was runner-up with a 116 and Denzil Grose took the last step on the podium with 114.

This year a Junior Ladies category was added in line with international competitions. The inaugural trophy was won by Phoebe Bodley-Scott, with Katy Essex taking the runner up spot and Sophie Langton in third. The same ladies also took the same places in the Ladies category, giving Phoebe a second trophy.

In Juniors Denzil Grose was high gun, followed by runner up Owen Lewis, with Mackenzie Kempton picking up the bronze medal. Lee Bowditch won the veterans trophy, runner-up went to Paul Oldring, and Des Davis took third place.

All Class winners received a gold medal, and 250 cartridges very kindly donated by Barry Essex who continues to support the Olympic skeet shoots. These went to: A Class Andrew Lea, B Class Denzil Grose, C Class Katy Essex (after a shoot off) and D Class Jedson Herman.

Thank you to the whole team at National Clay Shooting Centre especially Ollie and David for ensuring a smooth shoot and support throughout the weekend.

The BICTSF will next be hosting the Olympic Skeet British Grand Prix at Doveridge on 14th & 15th September 2024, where we will again be fundraising for Mummy’s Star Charity in support of Sarah Wright, a highly respected member of the Olympic Skeet community who sadly passed away from cancer three years ago. The Ladies Trophy at the British Grand Prix is the Sarah Wright nee Gray cup. If you would like to sponsor the event or donate raffle / auction prizes, please get in touch with Andrew Lea or Paul Tudge.

Thank you to Andrew and Paul for their report of the event.
