Another Olympic Quota Secured For Team GB Shooting

Great Britain’s shooting team win European Championships silver team medal and an Olympic quota place for GB!

It’s been a busy day at the ESC European Championships in Lonato as Matt Coward-Holley secures a quota place for Paris 2024 and a team Trap silver alongside team mates Nathan Hales and Aaron Heading.

That means Team GB now have a total of six quota places for Paris 2024, and while five of the slots will not be known until 28th June, the nature of Matt’s quota win means his spot is confirmed under his name and he will definitely be representing Team GB in Chateauroux, looking to win another medal to accompany his Tokyo 2020 bronze.

Matt secured his quota through the Olympic ranking spots which provides each country with the opportunity to win a spot for the Games based on their overall performance throughout the last 18 months.

Speaking after securing the quota, Coward-Holley said: “It feels phenomenal. It’s been a very very long 18 months, since the beginning of it but it’s fantastic now. I’ve been stressed to say the least over the last few days - it’s probably the most stressful competition I’ve had in a long time.

“The hard work has paid off though and I’m relieved I can start working properly now towards another Olympic medal.”

GB now have two Olympic Trap quotas, with Nathan Hales having already secured one for his country. The other four quotas were secured by Amber Rutter, Seonaid McIntosh, Mike Bargeron and Lucy Hall.

Elsewhere in Lonato, Nathan Hales came fourth in the final of Olympic Trap and Tom Betts also just missed out on a podium place by finishing fourth in Junior Trap.
