English Open Sporting 2024 - Day 1
The CPSA English Open English Sporting at Doveridge kicked off under a partly cloudy sky, though the sun broke through by early afternoon, bringing the temperature to a pleasant 17º.
As the first Major Sporting Championship of the 2024 season, the competition was in high demand with the event becoming full within hours of the bookings opening.
The hosts, Doveridge are very excited to be holding their next major CPSA Sporting championship following the success of the English Open Sporting held there in 2013. Course setter Clive Bramley has fully utilised the ground, with the course comprising 15-stands consisting of 120 targets. CPSA CEO Iain Parker said “We are very pleased to have partnered with Doveridge for our first CPSA Sporting Championship of the 2024 season, the English Open English Sporting. It's great to see the ground in full showcase mode.”
Over 250 eager shooters tackled the course, with defending champion Richard Faulds MBE seizing an early lead in the morning with an impressive 113 ex120. The day concluded with three competitors tied at a high score of 114 ex120 - Daniel Hampson, Phil Gray, and James Attwood. In the Veterans category (55 - 64), George Digweed MBE achieved a score of 108 ex120, while Philip James led the Super Veterans (65+) with 98 ex120. Hannah Gibson delivered a noteworthy performance in the Ladies category, scoring 100 ex120, and among the Juniors (16 -20), Kallum Burrell impressed with a score of 107 ex120. Well done to all participants!
