Day 1 British Open Sporting and Sportrap Round-up
The first day of the CPSA British Open English Sporting and Sportrap brought a bright and cheery start for the shooters of the day. Conditions were dry, sunny and with a mild wind, a perfect start to a Championship week. However, the rain hit after lunch and stayed for the afternoon rounds, but this did not deter any of the shooters carrying on.
The Teague Raffle started the morning, with a live random number generator deciding who won the prizes on offer today, which were handed on their check-in at Garlands. Well done to the following for their wins: 1st Prize a set of Teague Chokes – G Fisher; 2nd Prize £100 Cens Voucher from Innolife – T Zeyzor; 3rd Prize of a Sunday Shoot with The Clay Shooting Company – R Jones.
The Sporting event was opened by Colt shooter Finlay Bowles. Not only did he have the honour of being the first shooter out this year, but it was also his first ever Sporting Championship, overcoming his initial nerves to make it around the course. He commented “I enjoyed the course; it was challenging but happy I made it round ok. It was a long walk round compared to my trap practice”. Well done to him.
CPSA British Open Sporting 2019 finalist George Digweed said after shooting both disciplines, “It is a very good course, and there is something for everyone. Although it is quite technical. I think that probably in good to favourable conditions there is a 112 to 114 on the sporting. On the Sportrap I think a 92 or 93 would be my prediction”.
George Put in a high 108 ex 120 early on this morning. K Jobling followed with a 109 soon after. This afternoon saw Sam Green and James Bradley Day place a joint score of 111 ex 120, keeping it close between the top shots this year. A 113 ex 120 was placed by Billy Baughan, and a 115 ex 120 by J Reed, towards the end of the day.
CPSA British Open Sportrap 2019 High Gun Sam Green shot both the sporting and sportrap courses today, and said “Although a nice damp round from the rain this afternoon, it was a good shoot”. Tristan Hockey, CPSA British Open Sportrap 2019 Colt High Gun, said about his sportrap round, “It was a good layout, tricky pairs with interesting timings, but enjoyed shooting with my squad”.
SP Randles put in a strong score of 86 ex 100 on the Sportrap first squad. Soon after J Bridges placed a top score of 94 ex 100, which was equalled by Billy Baughan on the following squad.
Well done to all who shot today.
The event is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors Rizzini (distributed in the UK by ASI), Gamebore and Musto, who have provided a gun, cartridges and clothing vouchers respectively as prizes for winners.
The top five shooters from each class (AAA, AA, A, B, and C) and the top three from each category (Ladies, Seniors, Veterans, Juniors, Colts, and Disabled Standing and Disabled Sitting) will be invited to shoot the 75-target Final on Sunday. The top six scores from the Final will be invited to the 25-target Super Final on Sunday afternoon.
The following table shows all who have qualified each day, and are invited back to shoot on Sunday for the 75 Sporting Final
Each category will have 2 squads, and each class will make up 3.5 squads. The top six scores from the Final will be invited to the 25-target Super Final on Sunday afternoon.
