ICTSF World English Sporting Championships Preview
Kelmarsh Hall and Gardens in Northampton plays host to the ICTSF World English Sporting Championships next week (13th – 16th July).
The format for the World English Sporting is 200 targets shot over two days (Thursday / Friday or Saturday / Sunday). There will be a 25 FLASH target Super Final, where the top five shooters plus ties will compete for the title.
Now in its fourth edition, the inaugural event in 2011 was hosted in New Zealand and we have since seen a wave of British success in the main event. George Digweed walked away with the High Gun honours six years ago, before retaining his title in Canada in 2013. Two years ago in South Africa Martin Myers took the title from George shooting 186 ex 200 to lead by four points going into the Super Final, where he held his nerve to claim victory. Both men shoot in the Thursday / Friday rotation at Kelmarsh, with George shooting at 11.51am and Martin goes out at 3pm, they will both be worth keeping an eye on throughout the competition.
In Canada England enjoyed success across the Seniors, Ladies, Juniors and Veterans team events and a repeat on home soil this time around would be very welcome. In fact, the England Seniors, Ladies and Juniors have won the team events at all three of the previous ICTSF World English Sporting Championships – the pressure to continue this feat will well and truly be on!
A team of 17 compete for England, captained by Martin Doughty. Three New Caps join the team; Hannah Gibson in Ladies, Joshua Brown in Juniors and Andrew Jones in Super Veterans.
The England team are led out on the course by the Seniors shooting at 11.51am on the Saturday / Sunday rotation. We wish the best of luck and success to the England team.
