Steve Leppington Wins English Open English Skeet
Steve Leppington was crowned the 2017 English Open English Skeet champion on Sunday 28 May at Dartford Clay Shooting Club.
Over 200 shooters travelled to the Kent based ground to shoot the English Open and the standard of shooting was as high as ever.
The three day competition got underway on the Friday and A Class shot Darryl Taylor posted the first 100 straight in the morning to set the tone for the competition.
Heavy rain greeted the first of the weekend shooters on Saturday morning to briefly delay proceedings. However, a flurry of top scores followed, leaving AA shots Nick Coupe and Peter Stanton, along with B Class shooter John Silvester all tied with Darryl heading into the last day.
Emma Parkinson led the Ladies having shot 96 ex 100, whilst Tom McGregor led Juniors with an impressive 97 ex 100.
With a shoot off already guaranteed, it was a case of how many more shooters would join the top four on the Sunday. Gary Cooke and Steve Leppington added their names to that list, with last year’s winner Natalie Bales just falling short on 98 ex 100.
After an exciting shoot off, Steve held his nerve to claim the Overall High Gun, with Gary finishing runner up and Nick Coupe taking third overall.
Peter Stanton (AA), Darryl Taylor (A) and John Silvester (B) all won their respective classes.
Natalie Bales retained her Ladies High Gun title after beating Megan Jones in a shoot off, whilst Juniors saw three shooters all tied on 97 ex 100. Welsh shooter Luke English took the category High Gun, with Callum Jones second and Tom McGregor third.
The Colts was also decided by a shoot off, which saw Megan Jones beat Tom Tristram to take the honours, having both shot superb rounds of 98 ex 100. Steve Leppington also picked up the Veteran High Gun to round off a good weekend for the Yorkshire shot.
Sam Nunn retained his Disabled Standing title shooting 91 ex 100 and Kelvin Davies pipped Adrian Last by one point to secure the Disabled Sitting honours with 85 ex 100.
Congratulations to everyone who took part over the weekend and a massive thank you to Dartford Clay Shooting Club for being such brilliant hosts. Click here to view the full results.
