Andy Parsons takes 2016 British Open Skeet title
After 3 days at the British Open ESK, held at the glorious Doveridge ground, Andy Parsons became British Open Skeet champion after a tense three way shoot-off. Steve Leppington took Runner Up and 2013 winner Gary Cooke finished Third, representing a clean sweep for Yorkshire!
Joy Hirons retained her Ladies High Gun title with a 99 to make it four in a row, just one target ahead of Emma Parkinson, and Ben Ludford-Brooks also pipped Emma by one target to take the Junior High gun although Emma triumphed in B class, winning a shoot-off with Jim Wagstaff. Steve Leppington took the Veterans High Gun with 100 straight and Tom Tristram took Colts with an impressive 99.
Nick Marsden chose not to contest the High Gun shoot-off after posting an early 100 straight. After a protest had been made over his score, which the jury dismissed, Nick felt the potential damage to his integrity, following comments made in the wake of that incident, was not worth risking by contesting the shoot-off. He was clearly upset by the whole episode which cast something of a shadow over an otherwise fantastic event. Nick did collect AA class high gun while Tom Tristram prevailed after an extended shoot-off in A class and Jenny Hilton won C class.
